Apple Jailbreakers Now A Target:Apple Jailbreak Killer Patent – ‘Jailbreaking’ electronic devices is big business, and there are many out there who provide this ‘service’, to the detriment of consumers and the company alike. Companies such as Apple are always finding ways to beat the jailbreakers and stop these people from profiting from illegal activities such as this.
Apple has applied for a special patent, called the “Systems and Methods for Identifying Unauthorized Users of an Electronic Device,’ which is aimed at bringing security measures to automatically protect devices from thieves and other “unauthorized users.”
The “unauthorized users” are those who bypass the operating system, and put on software that is not authorized by the company, in this case Apple.
Activities that are included in this unauthorized usage include “hacking, jailbreaking, unlocking, or removal of a SIM card,” according to the application. What Apple will be able to do is send a warning message or email to the user, and possibly cut down the services available to them, and to detect “particular activities that may indicate suspicious behavior.”
“As we’ve said before, the vast majority of customers do not jailbreak their iPhones as this can violate the warranty and can cause the iPhone to become unstable and not work reliably,” Apple said in a statement in response to the ruling.
