BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet RIM
BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet – RIM Blackpad – Kindle has made it no secret that they are interested in developing apps for third party platforms. They announced today that they would be developing an app for the Blackberry Playbook tablet. It will have a seven inch screen and will reportedly be released sometime in early 2011 as a direct competitor for the iPad.
Although they have developed a handheld device of their own specifically for reading ebooks, they have made it clear that they are not against developing software for other apps in order to promote the purchase of e-books through their amazon store.
By allowing readers to read the material through as many mediums as possible, they are effectively giving users more incentive to buy their books through them. Their apps for other devices have been well received, and although it is not as convenient as reading the books on their own device, they have made it easy to scroll from page to page through their app. So far, users can use their iPhone, iPad, Android, Pc, Mac and Blackberry to read the books as well as the Kindle device itself.
It will be interesting to see what other devices they develop apps for. They have done a good job spreading their software and making it the standard for e-readers.
