It’s after 5:00 p.m. and the Chase online banking website is still down. They give no further information now than was available at 9:30 a.m. The message continues to state, “Our website is temporarily unavailable. We’re working quickly to restore access. Please logon later.” Quickly? Really? I’ve been trying to get access to my accounts for almost 8 hours. I have no idea how long it was down before I tried logging on. Give us some more information, Chase!

6:15pm tuesday just reached a telephone rep and they cannot provide an ETA how much longer it will be down. sounds serious.

Have been trying since this morning to get access to my accounts. I called this afternoon at 4:47 pm and was told they were upgrading the site. I do not believe that at all. I told the person that. Then on my 5:30 pm local news it was mentioned that Chase was having technical problems with the website. Just have your people tell us the truth that your website is having a major problem and not lead people to believe it is an upgrade happening.

The site has been down at least since Monday, 10 p.m. CST when I tried to to log on to pay a bill. Hope this does not affect payments that were already in the queue.

The “outage” has now exceeded 24 hours, and millions of Chase online customers are ready to switch banks. Look for a spike in the New York unemployment rate after the entire Chase IT Department is fired.

It’s nuts – I called and spoke to Bangalore (or somewhere like it) where the representative said that they were unaware of a problem. At least I think that’s what he said in broken English. I escalated and the supervisor was apologetic but had no ETA to provide.

Hey I have a great Idea….. let’s all go take our money out of their bank until they get the website back up. That should send a clear message as to who works for whom.

Everybody needs to withdraw their funds from Chase banks ASAP. I have been reading twitter and comments on other blogs people stating that their ATM’s and branch offices are running out of money and no trucks have been showing up to refill them today- which is VERY odd!!!

For first time callers – make sure you have your account number and tax id ready or use your account debit cards and pin.

Dell repossessed all the servers that Chase owes them for in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Could not have happened to more deserving folks. Hilarious.

What they are not telling you is that any money being transferred into your account — say from PayPal or Amazon.com Marketplace — is stuck in limbo. Tonight hundreds of dollars of my money remains unavailable to me, because CHASE is effectively closed to these transactions. I am hoping that the direct deposit for my paycheck goes through tomorrow, or I will have no money for food or gas. I don’t care much for the reasons behind this outage, I just know I will not be banking with CHASE in the future.
Ernie_07 | Sep 14, 2010 | Reply
Why the surprise. Bankers tend to be tight-fisted and have not been inclined to spend money to hire/retain competent IT workers because they can outsource to other countries for a mere fraction of the cost of US workers.
Only customers suffer and they are just an annoyance!
patrick | Sep 14, 2010 | Reply
I assure you this is the result of a major security breach involving a malitious infiltration of Chase’s banking systems. I had noticed a few days ago I was prompted to register my PC to access my account when I had used that PC many times to access my chase account. I closed out and did not re-register – now this. Could not have happened to a more deserving institution – greedy, disrespectful, arrogant bank deserves whatever comes from this.
Maria | Sep 14, 2010 | Reply
I’ve been trying to access my transactions since yesterday and they’re still ‘updating’ the page… how the heck can updating take so long? Geez, i really hope the problem isn’t so bad and can be solved soon… I need MONEY!

I just hope they are smart enough to extend the due dates on credit card payments without penalty.
I feel sorry for anyone whose funds are not accessible because of this. But I would like to say that my bills still appear to be getting paid. – I am looking forward to an honest, detailed answer about what is going on.

This is quite serious. Can’t pay my bills on line. They are very poor at commincations. Have no idea why the news services have not picked up on this. If Madonna scratches her ass, they put it on the head lines, where as a complete financial melt down is not even mentioned. Will probably switch to a more reliable and better managed bank when I can.

The customer service rep I just talked with (11:10 Central time U.S.) just said he was told to expect the site to be back up by 11 AM Eastern time tomorrow (wednesday the 15th).
Ok, we’ll see. Last call last night (about 9 PM Central – the article is wrong; the site has been down now more than 26 hours), they had no ETA so either they now do or that was just some number the fella pulled out of the air to shut me up.
Their systems are still sending out email alerts and the phone system is able to move money around without issue, and new debits are coming in that were incurred today so presumably our money is “safe”, even if access is hampered. Wonder if they’ll charge us a teller fee to show up in person to do a transaction?
I find myself wondering if they were either hacked and have been fixing security holes they found after the fact, which takes time or if they really did do an upgrade that went badly and they’ve had to inch their way back, or maybe the upgrade was to fix security holes and the security is now so tight nobody can log in!
Also, sometimes with these large sites their user authentication systems go out and require maintenance or repair, so maybe that’s the issue (I live with that issue in my big company every day, dealing with a group of systems that handles user accounts. When it fails, nobody can log into anything and all useful work on the front end stops, but transactions continue to flow on the back end. We just can’t SEE them for awhile except through alternate means until the web authentication system comes back online).
Not defending Chase here – they should have posted some kind of ETA on restoration of service and kept it updated even if it was not right the first time, hours ago. Knowing there’s an ETA of 5 PM today, and then at 5 PM today getting a new ETA of 11 AM tomorrow, is better than NOTHING about an ETA and getting a statement that “your funds are completely safe while we work on restoring service” or something to calm all the jitters.

10:28 MST Worried – Phone bankers are now unavailable as well, is this normal? I haven’t had to phone bank very much because I do all of my transacting ONLINE but now I can’t even get a phone rep. I don’t have much money to begin with but what I do have, I NEED!
I also think it’s convenient that so many people have credit cards due and the late fees will be racking up – it might be paranoid but who can trust a bank these days?

Like I said- people have been saying the ATM’s are not being refilled by the usual armored truck deliveries. There is also rumors now that Chase defaulted to Dell computers and they are reposessing server equipment. GET YOUR MONEY OUT NOW.
Yes, it’s FDIC insured- but you will have to go through the red tape, hassle, and hours of time to get it back if this institution collapses. Can you go that long without your money?

2:57 pm Central time- Hi,I have been a customer for over 30 years. You (Chase) have our email addresses in our account records. Can’t you at least send an email saying sorry for the mess (down almost 72 hours now)and at least a sincere statement about what is working? ATM cards? Can I get daily needs- gas, groc, etc. Is the whole system down or can I write a check? Will bills that I have already scheduled to pay process correctly?
I know a lot of people would be mean but a lot of us are loyal and supportive and just want to know what we CAN do while you are all working on this problem.
Please communicate.

3:00 pm CST 9/15, no page comes up at all when you attempt to login. “Windows cannot deplay webpage” message as when internet connection in down, but it’s the Chase site. I did access the site this am and paid some bills, but it’s down again now. My ‘personal banker’ at Chase confirmed it’s still down. Something’s really screwed up.

You have got to love Windoze software running their servers– down now over 52 hours and the clock is running. So much for 99.99% uptime– over the last three days it is more like 99.9% downtime– very impressive.
Mr. Dimon– you should fire your whole IT team and get some robust operating system, software and hardware in you bank’s IT basement!

10:18pm Wed…Chicago newspaper says problem caused by “3rd party software malfunction.” And, that many banks use 3rd party software so this might be expected to happen to other banks.
Isn’t that wonderful.

I finally was able to get in yesterday afternoon as I needed to pay my 2 cards – they were due on the 15th. It was after the 5 p.m. EST cut off time (I’m on PST). I called and got customer service, as I wanted to know if I could pay at a branch. My only option: pay $14.95 to have them take the payment and process effective the due date. $14.95 per credit card. I wanted to know how they could charge this fee when they have been down. Her response: you had the option to call our number and pay via our automated system before 5 p.m. EST. Great. I always pay online from where I’m at. I didn’t have any of my info (phone #, credit card #, bank account #). Seriously sucks.

This site was down for 2 days that I tried to get into my account. Their explanation is BLEAK. On their website it gives a very LAME apology. I don’t know why they couldn’t get their shit together, and if they were “improving” the website, they would have let us know prior to just turning all of our access off. I am going to close my account. I hope everyone does the same. REALLY POOR MOVE, CHASE! POOR!

It is October 5 and I just discovered I can’t log in to the Chase online payment system. I’m getting the same page described in blog articles posted about Chase being down in September. Have they been down all this time or are they down *again*? Amazing!
I am guessing people have to call in to make their payments. Very strange.

I called because I had a couple transactions not go through (not paid). When I gave the women the transaction number from my online bill pay transaction, she said that number was not registered with my account and that it was for another customers account? I said how is this possible? She doesn’t know!
Something serious happened that they are not telling people! Accounts may have gotten mixed up somehow.
