To aid the economy you talk about creating jobs by working on the infrastructure of the country. May I suggest to you as one of those infrastructure projects that would bring great fuel savings to this country in the long term would be the creation of a high speed passenger rail service throughout this country. The US is one of the few countries that does not have a modern rail system for passenger service. With ever congesting airways, airports and highways a modern high speed passenger rail system would remove some of the burden on those systems and should create a more affordable and fuel efficient means of public transportation especially for those in the lower income group. It is deplorable what this country has allowed its railway system to degrade to. If we don’t contract out the development and implementation of the motive power and equipment it would create many new jobs and associated industries. Developed properly and in conjunction with rail freight the savings to this country could be significant.
