The officers, David Curtis and Jeffrey Kocab were shot and killed during a routine traffic stop that they had made early on June 29th. A number of people gathered outside of the headquarters of the police department to leave flowers and to mourn the loss of two fine citizens whose lives ended way too early. The loss of an officer always puts the focus on how dangerous the job actually is, and the types of brave men and women that choose to put their lives on the line for the better good of the public on a daily basis.
They will be added to a local memorial site that has honored 29 officers who have died on duty in the city since 1895. Tampa is a city that is known around the region as a welcoming, family-oriented city. The death of two police offers came as a shock to many who live in the community.

They had stopped a car that did not have a license plate on the back of the car. Upon questioning the individual inside of the car, they found out that he had outstanding warrants for a number of small offenses. When the officers attempted to arrest the man, he reportedly turned around and shot them both at point blank range.
Jeffrey Kocab leaves behind a wife who is nine months pregnant. Officer David Curtis leaves behind a wife and four children.
