Verizon iPhone January 2011 Release?
Verizon iPhone January 2011 Release? – According to “Taking Stock” host Pimm Fox, Verizon Wireless will start selling the Apple iPhone in January. A number of experts appeared on the Bloomberg Television program to weigh in on the speculation. The phone has remained on AT&T through an exclusivity deal throughout the life of the device. Over the course of the last few years, a number of rumors have stated that the phone would be making a move to other networks. While these rumors remained a part of weekly tech conversation, nothing ever seemed to stick.
So what does the iPhone coming to Verizon mean for the company, phone, and users? According to Brian Marshall, the switch may cause more problems that you would think.
“It’s going to be problematic. I think it’s good that AT&T’s actually securing all the upgrades for the iPhone 4 and locking in those customers for the next couple of years.”
So, will AT&T subscribers be jumping ship for the better coverage that is reportedly provided by Verizon? Some will, and some will not. Verizon may be able to offer the iPhone at a discounted price. Currently AT&T pays Apple $450 for each activated iPhone. Some experts have speculated that Verizon would only have to pay around $300 per iPhone 4 activation.
There is no word on which versions of the iPhone Verizon may be looking to offer. They will likely offer the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, but there has been no official confirmation from the company. This move will certainly help Verizon, but some experts have questioned how much the move will actually affect AT&T.
