.xxx Porn Domain Name Delayed

Bogota recently delayed the launch of what would be the very first and somewhat controversial “.xxx” domain which would be reserved for pornographic sites on the web. ICANN or the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers ultimately decided that they wanted to delay the decision as to whether or not to allow the domain; however they did not specify a date that they would reconvene to make their decision. ICM Registry is the company which owns and is responsible for the domain name and they have been trying for a long time to get approved by ICANN for a number of years.

There was a deal in place earlier in the year; however it was delayed to an unspecified date.
ICM Registry is planning on selling the .xxx addresses for $60 apiece to hundreds of thousands of websites which are involved in the adult entertainment industry. They have expressed their hopes to start selling the domain names to websites at the very beginning of the year, but because of certain delays that might not end up happening. The company that owns the domain names have expressed their frustration at just how slow going the process has been since 2004 and they are still getting delayed.
